Cảm biến thông minh (Smart Sensors) dần trở nên phổ biến và quan trọng trong đời sống con người, giúp cuộc sống trở nên dễ dàng hơn.
Cảm biến thông minh là thiết bị cho phép người dùng thu thập dữ liệu một cách chính xác và tự động về những thay đổi về vật lý, hóa học ở nơi được gắn thiết bị. Các thông tin được ghi lại từ cảm biến thông minh thường rất chính xác và ít bị sai lệch. Nó giúp theo dõi, kiểm soát các cơ chế trong nhiều môi trường, đồng thời giúp thăm dò số lượng lớn những thông tin cho các ứng dụng khoa học.
Cảm biến thường được đặt trong các vỏ bảo vệ tạo thành đầu thu hay đầu dò (Test proble) và bên trong các mạch điện hỗ trợ thiết bị.
